Where times stands still

Klipspringer hike

I’ve been a bit more active lately in the hiking department having been up Lion’s Head and TM in recent weeks. While these are fantastic hikes and have great scenery, they are local and I wanted to go a bit further afield. So I packed my bags on Saturday afternoon and headed off towards Gordon’s Bay and around the coastline. My aim was actually to find a route from the coast through to Steenbras Dam but looking around the Kogel Bay areas I “only” found the Klipsrpinger Dam route which stays on the coast. Probably just as well because the cliffs were imposingly steep.

The hike itself is a mixture of medium gradient rises and sections of flat track. If you do the loop, then you’re looking at around 2 to 3 hours of quick hiking with a few deck crossings of what will be water courses in Winter. The cliffs on the left ( going east ) are huge and steep with a lot of folds due to compression. The plant life is composed mostly of scrub bush with some pretty flowers scattered here and there.

The views of course are mesmerising with cliffs on one side and the coast on the other. And Cape Town as usual does not disappoint with sunsets. If you have a few hours free, this is one not to be missed.
